CORE is the leadership team and the central planning team of Cal VSA’s Annual Culture Show. This team consists of various positions essential to the development of the show and is typically composed of individuals who have participated in Culture Show before and now wish to step into a leadership position for the show. However, anyone who wants to make a contribution to Culture Show is certainly welcome to apply! Without a dedicated team working at Culture Show’s core level, the production would not be possible.

There are many positions on CORE, and each position has its own respective tasks and responsibilities. In general, everyone on CORE participates in:

  • Attending weekly CORE meetings
  • Helping fund raise and publicize for Culture Show
  • Having and promoting a positive and exciting experience.

Specific roles for each position are as follows:


Production Team


Oversee and delegate work to CORE, ensure a welcoming and safe environment for everyone to work and grow together as a team, deliver the performance to the stage while preserving the integrity, voice, and vision of the Culture Show community.

Assistant Producer

Shadow, assist, and brainstorm ideas with producers. Help ensure that other CORE members are on-task and stress-free.

Story Team


Hold acting practices to guide and mentor actors/actresses to successfully portray the characters as envisioned, assist with mic-blocking and onstage-positioning


Write the script, make edits when and where applicable, present the theme and vision to production theme

Design Team

Set Designer

Create a blueprint for the backdrop, lead other CORE and cast members in the backdrop construction

Prop Master

Obtain, return, and organize props used during the show, assign crew members to designated props

Costume Designer

Purchase materials and design and/or obtain costumes from Cal VSA’s collection, members’ wardrobes, etc. as necessary

Hair & Makeup Artist

Design and apply makeup for characters, be available for dress rehearsals and photo-shoots

Technical Team

Stage Manager

Call cues for performers at rehearsals and on show day, confirm performers are positioned to enter and exit the correct side of the stage

Sound Technician

Control music and provide sound for show, i.e., car alarm, door knocking, and recognize cues to play sounds

Light Technician

Control lighting during show and coordinate with performance hall staff, recognize cues for changing light displays

Public Relations Team

Finance Manager

Work on budget and reimbursements, apply for funds and grants, organize fundraisers and soliciting sponsorships

Marketing Manager Responsible for publicizing the show, handling ticket sales, and Spirit Week activities (week before the show where we go all out with advertising!)


Document Culture Show process (practices, all-casts, meetings, events, etc.) and show day via photographs and videos, and upload media online to our website and social media

Publications Manager

Design posters, fliers, and pamphlets, create other means of visual marketing

Web Administrator

Update and maintain Culture Show website

Performance Team

Performance Coordinator

Hold practice sessions, find music for performance piece, choreograph / find someone to choreograph performance piece, communicate Culture Show CORE updates to performers, and coordinate matching attire among dancers.

  • Types (including, but not limited to): Co-Ed Dance, Colorguard, Jazz Lyrical, Lion Dance, Traditional Dances (fan and hat), Sriracha (our very own Hip-Hop dance team!), etc.
  • If you have any dance ideas that are not listed above and you would like to contribute, feel free to share on your application (under “other”)
  • There is one Performance Coordinator per performance type

Vocals Coordinator

Hold singing practices, find music for performance piece, and communicate Culture Show CORE updates to singers
