CORE
CORE is the leadership team and the central planning team of Cal VSA’s Annual Culture Show. This committee consists of various positions essential to the development of the show and is typically composed of individuals who have participated in Culture Show before and now wish to step into a leadership position for the show, but anyone who wants to make a contribution to Culture Show is welcome to apply. Without a dedicated team working at Culture Show’s core level, the production would not be possible.
There are many positions on CORE, and each position has its own respective tasks and responsibilities. In general, everyone on CORE participates in:
- Attending weekly CORE meetings,
- Helping publicize and fundraise for Culture Show, and
- Having and promoting a positive and exciting experience.
Specific roles for each position are as follows:
Production Team

Producer |
Oversee and delegate work to CORE. Deliver Culture Show to the stage while preserving the integrity, voice, and vision of the Culture Show community. |

Assistant Producer |
Shadow, assist, and brainstorm ideas with producers. Help ensure that other CORE members are on-task and stress-free. |
Story Team
|
Director |
Hold acting practices and help actors with blocking, positioning onstage. Guide and foster performance skills of actors. Maintain clear and cohesive vision for all of Culture Show. |

Assistant Director |
Assist director in working with actors. |
|
Scriptwriter |
Write the Culture Show script, make edits where and/or when applicable, and present director(s) with your vision. |
|
Assistant Scriptwriter |
Assist scriptwriter with ideas for the story and help to edit the script. If applicable, help translate from English to Vietnamese. |
Design Team

Set Designer |
Create a scene-by-scene blueprint for the sets-props, construct and/or purchase sets-props, and assign stage crew tasks to cast members. |

Prop Master |
Obtain, return, and organize props. Borrow props. |
|
Costume Designer |
Purchase materials and design and/or obtain costumes. |
|
Hair & Makeup Artist |
Design and apply makeup for characters; be available for dress rehearsals and photo-shoots |
Music Team

Music Composer |
Compose original music. |
|
Songwriter |
Write songs relevant to the story. |
Technical Team
|
Stage Manager |
Facilitate All-Casts and rehearsals. Call cues for show-day. |
|
Sound Technician |
Control music and provide sound for show, i.e., car alarm, gunshots. |
|
Lighting Designer |
Light show with spotlights and other cues. |
|
Assistant |
Assist the technical positions. |
Public Relations Team

Finance Manager |
Work on budget and reimbursements. |
|
Fundraising |
Solicit sponsorships and brainstorm innovative ideas for fundraising. |
|
Marketing |
Responsible for marketing team, publicizing for the show, and Spirit Week activities. |
|
Historian |
Document Culture Show with photographs and videos, and upload media online. |
|
Publications |
Design posters, fliers, and pamphlets. Create other means of visual marketing. |
|
Web Administrator |
Update Culture Show website. |
Performance Team
|
Dance Coordinator |
Hold practices, find music for performance piece, and ensure that performers know all Culture Show updates. Types: Co-Ed Fusion, Guard, Jazz Lyrical, Lion Dance, Traditional, Sriracha (Hip-hop). |
|
Vocal Coordinator |
Hold practices, find music, and ensure that performers know all Culture Show updates. |
|
Assistant |
Assist a performance coordinator with recruiting performers and running practices. |
